The Hotel Dieu Shaver (HDS) family gathered together on May 30, 2023 for a special dedication in honour of a beloved colleague and celebration of a transformational gift made to HDS Foundation.
Team members and friends of HDS were surprised and delighted to learn that the inpatient building has been renamed “The Dr. John T. Luce Inpatient Building.”
This new name honours our late Chief of Staff Dr. John (Jack) Luce, a man who dedicated himself and his life to caring for others.
“Dr. Luce was and always will be the heart and soul of this organization, living out Hotel Dieu Shaver’s mission in every aspect of his work”, says Lynne Pay, Chief Executive Officer of Hotel Dieu Shaver. “His memory, legacy and strength will remain strong within the walls of our hospital and his steadfast example of kindness, wisdom and compassion will guide all of us in the decisions that we make, for years to come.”
The Dr. John T. Luce Inpatient Building is dedicated in gratitude for the exemplary service and compassionate care demonstrated by Dr. Jack Luce. It is also dedicated in recognition of a transformational gift made by his loving wife Wendy, in his memory.
The crowd was brought to tears when it was announced that Wendy made an extraordinary gift of $1 million dollars to HDS in his memory.
This remarkable act of kindness and generosity will have a significant positive effect on the HDS patient-care team and its ability to provide exemplary care to our Niagara Community.
“Dr. and Mrs. Luce have been loyal and dedicated supporters of Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation”, says Tracy Geoffroy, Executive Director of Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation. “This transformational gift is a beautiful extension of their unwavering dedication in support of the patients and staff at HDS. Quality patient care is at the forefront of everything we do, and this gift will ensure the incredible team at HDS has the tools they need to provide exceptional care to our patients.”
