Thanks to the generous donation of annual plants from Seaway Gardens, patients at Hotel Dieu Shaver were able to show off their green thumbs by planting dozens of beautiful flowers in the Healing Garden.
Earlier this spring, the accessible garden boxes were also given a makeover thanks to members of HCARN (Heavy Construction Association of Regional Niagara) who generously donated the supplies for our new garden boxes to be built.
The Recreation Therapy team at HDS gathered a group of eager patients who enjoyed an afternoon of gardening in an accessible area of the garden. For Avi, a patient in the post-COVID rehabilitation program, this activity was extra special. “Gardening was amazing! I had missed my garden so much, and to get outside with the Recreation team, to plant some flowers and have the sun on my face - I can’t describe how good it made me feel.”
