Niagara’s Rankin Cancer Run has been a generous supporter of Hotel Dieu Shaver for many years. Our sincerest thanks go to the event organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and participants—your dedication continues to provide vital cancer care programs in our community.
This continued support helps make stories like Gabriel’s possible. After being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, Gabriel faced significant pain and limited mobility that left him confined to a recliner. “The cancer and spinal compression fractures made even the slightest movement difficult… I was in so much pain,” he shared.
After being referred to the Rankin Family Cancer Rehab Program, everything changed. Through specialized therapy and compassionate, individualized care, Gabriel described his time at HDS as having “no other feeling than happiness.” Reflecting on his experience, he shared, “The Rankin Family Cancer Rehab Program has the tools and equipment to help you succeed; the resources are phenomenal. Because of the program at HDS, I am now able to go for car rides, enjoy time with family, go swimming, and see life beyond the recliner and my cancer diagnosis.”
